The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary Director of Underwriting to play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our client's underwriting strategy. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a unique opportunity to drive strategic growth whilst maintaining market leadership in temporary insurance.
You'll lead underwriting strategy, foster key partnerships, and collaborate across Pricing, Product, and Compliance teams to deliver exceptional value to customers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Own and develop comprehensive underwriting strategy to support ambitious growth objectives
- Establish and maintain strong, trusting relationships with underwriting partners and key stakeholders
- Monitor market trends and competitor strategies, responding proactively to maintain competitive advantage
Partnership & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align underwriting strategies with broader business objectives
- Work closely with Pricing and Product teams to develop innovative propositions
- Support new product development initiatives across the business
Team Leadership & Compliance:
- Manage and develop the underwriting team, fostering professional growth and clear goal communication
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with FCA regulations and deliver fair customer outcomes
- Embed a culture of compliance and excellence throughout underwriting practices
Stakeholder Management:
- Effectively communicate underwriting priorities and progress to senior management and external partners
- Provide data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making
- Maintain transparency and strong relationships with all stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in underwriting leadership roles, with Motor insurance experience preferred
- Strong relationship management skills with ability to build strategic partnerships
- Deep understanding of underwriting, reinsurance, and risk management
- Analytical and proactive approach to market monitoring and opportunity identification
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience presenting to senior leadership teams
- Collaborative mindset with strong team management and development capabilities
